Responsible for public electrical safety in Ontario
- stand-alone not-for-profit corporation
- powers and duties derived from The Electricity Act and The Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act
- does wiring inspections for all new construction and renovations in the residential, commercial and industrial markets
- electrical work must be inspected as required by the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
- permits required 48 hours before starting work
- issues inspection certificates
- responds to reports of unapproved electrical equipment
- publishes the Ontario Electrical Safety code every three years
- provides Electrical Safety code Training
- provides electrical incidents report guidelines
- publishes Electrical Safety Tips for the public
