Description (Service) |
Supports for children, youth, and families: - when a mental health crisis is identified and requires immediate support
- when risk taking behaviour is identified and immediate support is required to safety plan (self-harm, suicide, aggression)
- who need assistance with school issues or refusal to attend, addictions concerns, conflict, emotional dysregulation
- when service navigation and linkage is needed
- when immediate situational support is required
- whenever a child or youth requires support or you're unsure how to help
Crisis workers will: - follow up within one hour of initial referral or next day in cases of afterhours referrals
- conduct risk assessment and formulate safety plans during initial phone contact
- support determination of continued level of risk for the child or youth, assist with coping plans and connection to appropriate resources
- provide up to 6 sessions of brief therapy (based in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as deemed appropriate by the Crisis Worker
- provide parents with positive parenting support (Triple P)
- provide information about children's mental health services, service navigation and linkages as required
Mental Health Crisis Line operates out of Canadian Mental Health Association, Simcoe County Branch and provides telephone crisis intervention 24 hours a day. Crisis Line provides the link to the Youth Crisis Response Worker. |

Eligibility |
- Child or Youth under the age of 18 experiencing a social emotional or behavioural crisis
- family members and concerned adults struggling to respond to the needs of a youth in their care
- community partners with concerns for a child or youth's mental health
