All health services that provide free / low-cost or mobile / in-home service will be kept for 2-1-1 (includes all types of private health practitioners including dentists, chiropractors, veterinarians, etc)

All health care providers should be registered in good standing with their applicable College or professional association - see links below to verify that individual practitioners are in good standing.

Instructions for I&R

For health care services that are not maintained for 2-1-1, I&R will still be providing this information to callers, but will access the information by referring to appropriate College/governing body or by Google search. Do not tell caller that we don't maintain this information

PRIVATE HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS

CHIROPRACTORSDENTISTS, DENTAL HYGIENISTS and DENTURISTSDOCTORSFOOT CARE and PODIATRISTS and CHIROPODISTS
  • include community foot care clinics and in-home services provided by a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), include Chiropody Clinics that provide advanced foot care by a Podiatrist or Chiropodist
  • do not include non-medical foot care services like pedicures
  • College of Chiropodists of Ontario
  • College of Nurses of Ontario
MIDWIVES
Midwife services are covered by OHIP. Midwives are regulated medical professionalsDOULAS
Doulas provide non-clinical support to pregnant women and parents. Certification is through various associations, not a central professional college
  • include supportive health services offered by non-profit organizations or commercial services with free/low-cost or in-home options. Most doulas provide in-home support, therefore meet inclusion criteria
NURSES and NURSE PRACTITIONERS
  • include nurses and nurse practitioners who provide mobile or in-home service, can be individual practitioners or larger home health care agencies
  • College of Nurses of Ontario
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTSOPTOMETRISTS, OPTICIANS, AND VISION CENTRESPERSONAL SUPPORT WORKERS (PSWs)
  • include in-home personal support provided by registered PSWs in good standing, who work for a non-profit organization or for-profit business, include individual registered PSWs if they have a formally registered business
PHYSIOTHERAPISTSPSYCHOLOGISTS and PSYCHOTHERAPISTSSOCIAL WORKERS and SOCIAL SERVICE WORKERSSPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGISTS and AUDIOLOGISTSREGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPISTSDIETITIANS
NUTRITIONIST is not a protected professional title in Ontario and there is no standard of practice for them. Do not include nutritionists. Dietitian and Registered Dietitian are protected professional titlesCOMPLEMENTARY THERAPY and ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE
No longer maintained for 2-1-1. Do not include any alternative therapy providers, even if they provide low-cost/in-home service.
