Description & Services

Description (Service) Manages the program and subsidy administration for the Non-Profit and Co-Op Housing programs as well as directly owning and managing Simcoe County Housing Corporation and also plans and delivers affordable housing programs.
  • administers rent-geared-to-income housing
  • some units are completely accessible to those with physical disabilities
  • abused women and children needing permanent subsidized housing may be eligible for special priority when referred by crisis centres
  • also administers several Senior Citizen apartments
  • seniors may apply to live in rent-geared-to-income senior apartments or adult housing apartments
  • affordable housing programs include rental development, affordable homeownership down payment assistance, rent supplement, and renovation assistance for home repairs, accessibility modifications, and secondary suites.

Eligibility Social Housing General - filled by date of application.
  • At least one member in household must be 16 years and up.
  • Must be Canadian Citizen, Landed immigrant, or have Refugee Claimant Status and have no deportation order under the Immigration Act against any member of the household or no departure order or exclusion order under the Immigration Act.
  • Must be able to live independently.
  • Home owners must sell property within 6 months after being offered housing.
  • Must not owe arrears to any social housing provider or have misrepresented household income.

Seniors - filled by date of application.
  • 60 years and up for seniors housing.
  • If total assets equal more than fifty thousand dollars, can apply, but may not be eligible.

Application Application must be signed by all members of the household 16 years and older. Application available at the office, by mail, fax or online at above website. Copy of birth certificate and proof of Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status must be provided with application.
